The physiological cellular expression of tissue factor (TF) was established by
immunohistochemical localization [1, 2]. TF is expressed at tissue barriers interfacing with
the environment and also at barriers between organs, such as the adventitia of blood
vessels and the fibrous organ capsules of liver, spleen and kidney. Thus, under
physiological conditions TF is expressed only at sites that are separated from the circulating
