We recently cloned arat glucose transporter cDNA expressed in liver, intestine, kidney and 6
islet cells (1). Antipeptide antibodies raised against the rat transporter (peptides 47-60 and
513-522) do not cross react with the mouse transporter. Using the rat cDNA as probe, we
isolated a glucose transporter cDNA clone from amouse liver library constructed in Agtl 1
(Clontech) and determined its nucleotide sequence. The translated protein is 523 amino
acids long; it is 95 and 82% identical to the rat (1) and human (2) protein, respectively.
