Preeclampsia is characterized by increased vasoconstriction frequently associated with
increased platelet aggregation, reduced uteroplacental blood flow, and premature delivery.
Because prostacyclin antagonizes the vasoconstrictor, platelet-aggregating, and uterine-
activating actions of thromboxane, we considered the hypothesis that placental production of
