Meal patterns of genetically obese rats and their lean littermates were compared. Total food
intake of the genetically obese rats exceeded that of nonobese rats by approximately 30%.
Differences in the obese animals' meal patterns included enlarged meal size and decreased
meal frequency. The normal pattern of predominantly nocturnal feeding was absent in obese
animals.
