Unlike normal rats, rats with bilateral lesions in either the hippocampus or medial frontal
cortex did not learn to swim from different directions to a hidden platform located at a specific
place in a room. Experimental and clinical evidence indicates that a fronto-hippocampal
system may provide an integrated neurological basis for spatial representational ability.
