nucleotide phosphodiesterases involves the breaking of a high-energy phosphodiester
bond in a metaldependent, hydrolytic process. For most enzymes, the preferred metal
cofactors are divalent cations such as Mg 2+ or Mn 2+, although other metals, such as Co
