regulate basal and inducible expression of the TF promoter. Fig. 1A shows the position of
Spl, Egr-l, NF-rB and AP-l binding sites in the human TF promoter. The identification of these
sites and their roles in the regulation of TF gene expression was detennined by a
combination of functional studies, DNase I footprinting and electrophoretic mobility shift
assays (EMSA).
