The discovery of leptin, a peptide hormone synthesized in adipocytes, has led to the
identification of a novel signal transduction pathway involved in the control of body weight.
This letter describes a missense mutation in the rat leptin receptor gene (OB-R) that is
thought to represent the fatty mutation (fa). Amino acid sequence alignments are presented
for human, rat and mouse OB-R.
