Adult mammalian ventricular cardiomyocytes are terminally differentiated cells that enlarge
adaptively by hypertrophy. In this situation, genes normally expressed in the fetal ventricular
cardiomyocyte (eg atrial natriuretic factor (ANF), β-myosin heavy chain (β-MHC), and
