The HLA class II region sequences included in this compilation are taken from publications
listed in the WHO Nomenclature reports (1-14). Where discrepancies have arisen between
reported sequences, the original authors have been contacted where possible, and
necessary amendments to published sequences have been incorporated into this

The HLA class II region sequences included in this compilation are taken from publications listed in the WHO Nomenclature reports (1-14). Where discrepancies have arisen between reported sequences, the original authors have been contacted where possible, and necessary amendments to published sequences have been incorporated into this alignment. Future sequencing may identify errors in this list and I would welcome any evidence that helps to maintain the accuracy of this compilation. In the sequence alignments, identity between residues is indicated by a hyphen (-). Unavailable sequence information is indicated by an asterisk (*). Minimum gaps in the sequence, indicated by a period (.), are inserted to maintain the alignment between alleles showing variation in length. The following allele alignments include sequences across all exons; however, since for many alleles sequence information is incomplete, such alleles will be cut short and the alignments compressed to conserve space.
This series of sequence alignments updates those published previously (15-19). The following sequences have been deleted since the last published alignment due to sequence resolution in favour of an existing allele of another name, or due to evidence that the sequence was significantly erroneous: DRB1* 08031, DRB1* 09011, DRB1* 12031, DRB1* 1606, DRB5* 0201, DPB1* 02011. The sequence alignments included in this compilation, along with a complete list of original references, are now available in computer readable format via the World Wide Web from the UXL,“http://www. anthonynolan. com”.
