Abstract
The authors discuss findings on the isolation, cloning and further investigation of one of the major antigens from Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus, Der p I, and report the identification of a new antigenic protein designated Der p III and studies comparing this with Der p I and with Der f III from D. farinae. It is concluded that proteolytic action per se may be an important feature contributing to mite allergen activity in susceptible individuals. In addition, antigens associated with the faecal particle other than groups I and III may well prove to be mite enzymes involved in digestion.
