Thrombin receptor cleavage at the Arg 41-↓-Ser 41 peptide bond in the receptor's amino-
terminal exodomain is necessary and sufficient for receptor activation. The rate of receptor
cleavage at this site is a critical determinant of the magnitude of the cellular response to
thrombin. These observations underscore the importance of defining the molecular basis for
