Arachidonic acid is liberated from the sn-2 position of membrane glycerophospholipids by
phospholipase A,(PLA,), initiating the production of prostaglandins and leukotrienes,
important inflammatory mediators (Irvine, 1982; Samuelsson et al., 1991). A subset of the
lysophospholipid produced can be converted to platelet activating factor, another potent
