The organization of signaling molecules into macromolecular complexes is a fundamental design principle in biology. This organizational principle underlies excitation-contraction coupling in muscle; hormonal regulation of the heartbeat and blood pressure; neurotransmitter release and synaptic communication; mitochondrial bioenergetics; and cell-cell contact. Dysregulation of macromolecular signaling complexes underlies diverse cardiovascular and neurological diseases. This conference, which is the 69th annual symposium of the Society of General Physiologists (SGP), is September 16-20, in Woods Hole, MA, and will provide a cross-disciplinary overview of recent significant and innovative developments in the field of “Macromolecular Local Signaling Complexes”.
