Figure 3Induction of predominant Th2 cytokine response by large intestinal lymphocytes from mice with OVA-induced diarrhea. (
a) Cytokine synthesis by the mononuclear cells isolated from the spleens and from the small and large intestines of control (open bars) or diarrhea-induced (filled bars) mice. The mononuclear cells were cultured in the presence of 100 μg/mL of OVA for 4 days, and then culture supernatants were analyzed by the respective cytokine-specific ELISA. (
b) Expression of Th1 (IFN-γ) and Th2 (IL-4 and IL-13) cytokine-specific mRNA by whole lymphocytes and CD4
+ αβ T cells from large intestines of control (open circle) and diarrhea-induced (closed circle) mice. Quantitative RT-PCR methods were performed using the LightCycler. These data are representative of two independent experiments containing five to seven mice in each group.
AP < 0.05 versus control mice. ND, not detectable.
