Effect of chronic treatment of rats with albuterol on the ability of CTX to promote cAMP formation in lung ex vivo. Rats were given saline (open circles) or albuterol (filled circles; 40 μg/kg/h) for 7 days, and CTX-induced cAMP accumulation in lung was determined. Each point represents the mean ± SEM of six determinations. Basal cAMP levels were 108 ± 28 and 84 ± 21 pmol/mg protein in saline- and albuterol-treated rats, respectively.
