TNF-α is not expressed in induced sputum from mildly asthmatic patients given 1018 ISS via inhalation.

Sputum of allergen-challenged and 1018 ISS–treated humans was analyzed for gene expression of TNF-α, IP-10, and ISG-54 24 hours after ISS inhalation. Data are expressed as fold induction of after-inhalation over pre-inhalation values. TNF-α was not induced by 1018 ISS inhalation compared with placebo inhalation (P = 0.6961). In contrast, 1018 ISS inhalation significantly upregulated expression of the ISS-inducible genes IP-10 and ISG-54. Median lines are shown. n = 10.
