Schematic diagram of the strategy used to overexpress hEC-SOD in the mouse lung. The human surfactant protein-C, t-intron Tg expression vector was used to construct a full-length hEC-SOD expression vector. Tg offspring were identified by using PCR to amplify a unique fragment of the hEC-SOD gene (172 bp) from mouse tail genomic DNA. The ethidium bromide–stained agarose gel shows PCR products of Tg positive mice (+) and their negative littermates (). hEC-SOD, human extracellular superoxide dismutase; Tg, transgenic.
