Double immunofluorescence of proteasomal immunosubunit β2i and NF-κB subunit p65 in the terminal ileum and colon of IBD patients and controls. Magnification, ×1,000. Increased expression of NF-κB subunit p65 colocalizes with enhanced expression of the β2i subunit in intestinal epithelial cells and cells of the lamina propria (green fluorescence, β2i; red fluorescence, p65). NF-κB was stained with a primary antibody that exclusively recognizes activated p65. Data represent 1 of 8–10 patients per group.
