T cells from patients with SLE have an altered phenotype. T lymphocytes from 14 patients with SLE, 12 healthy controls (Normal), and 6 patients with RA were analyzed for expression of CD4, CD8, CD45RA, and CD45RO by flow cytometry. (A) The relative proportions of T cells expressing CD4 or CD8 were expressed as a ratio (CD4:CD8). (B and C) The level of expression of both CD8 (B) and CD4 (C), as determined by MFI, on T cells from patients with SLE or RA and from healthy controls.
