Regulation of PMN clearance by IFN-γ is dependent on IL-6 activity. Wild-type (a and c) and IL-6–/– (b and d) mice were intraperitoneally administered with PBS, IL-1β (100 ng per mouse), IFN-γ (0.5 U per mouse), or IFN-γ in combination with IL-1β at these doses. PMN infiltration was assessed at 3 hours using differential cell counting (a and b), and intraperitoneal KC levels were quantified at 1 hour by ELISA (c and d). Results are expressed as the mean ± SEM (n = 5 mice per condition; *P < 0.05 versus PBS; **P < 0.05, a significant decrease versus IL-1β alone).
